Alongside yesterday's IFA news about Asus' newest ultrabooks, Asus has also announced the rechristened Asus Vivo Tab and Vivo Tab RT, previously announced as the Asus Tablet 810 and Tablet 600, respectively. Designed with a dual-purpose design, these Windows 8 devices feature convenient tablets with detachable keyboard docks, allowing the tablet to become an ultraportable laptop.
The Asus Vivo Tab, formerly the Tablet 810, features an 11.6-inch IPS+ display with 1366 by 768 resolution. The capacitive touch display offers both 10-point multitouch, and also uses Wacom digitizer technology with a stylus for handwriting and drawing.
Measuring only 0.34-inch thick and weighing 1.48 pounds, the Vivo Tab is thin and light. With the same SonicMaster audio heard in the Asus Zenbook UX32VD, sound quality should be better than the average tablet. The Vivo Tab is also outfitted with both front- and rear-facing cameras, with a 2 megapixel camera for video chatting, and an 8 megapixel camera equipped with autofocus and LED flash for snapping photos and shooting video. A built-in near-field communication (NFC) sensor enables easy syncing to other NFC-enabled devices.
The Asus Vivo Tab is equipped with an upcoming Intel Atom processor, paired with 2GB of RAM. Storage is provided by a 64GB embedded memory card. The docking keyboard provides both a full size chiclet keyboard and trackpad, along with two full size USB ports and a secondary battery.
Alongside the Vivo Tab is the similar looking Asus Vivo Tab RT?formerly known as the Tablet 600?which shares the tablet hybrid form-factor of the Vivo Tab, but with scaled down size and performance. The Vivo Tab RT is slightly thinner and lighter than it's sibling, measuring 0.32-inch thick and weighing 1.14 pounds. The screen is slightly smaller, at 10.1-inches, but with the same 1366 by 768 resolution IPS+ display and scratch resistant glass.
The Vivo Tab RT runs Windows 8 RT, and utilizes an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core mobile processor and 2GB of RAM, with an additional 12-core graphics processor. The Vivo Tab RT is outfitted with 32GB of storage, front- and rear-facing cameras, and several built-in sensors, including NFC, GPS, G-sensor, Light sensor, gyroscope, and compass.
Pricing has not been announced yet, but both the Vivo Tab and Vivo Tab RT are expected to launch alongside Windows 8 in late October.
