Acer's Q1 financial report reveals that the fourth biggest PC maker in the world is feeling weak after posting a very modest profit -- three months after it declared a $212 million loss for 2011. Turnover for the first three months of this year was NT$113 billion ($3.8 billion) and profits after tax were NT$331 million ($11.2 million). To put that in context, it made a $40 million profit in the same quarter last year -- so this is a spectacular collapse of 72 percent year-over-year
Reuters is suggesting that the problem is in part due to increased hardware costs caused by the Thailand floods, but the company isn't giving anything away. Instead its terse announcement just advised that the company grew its global PC market share by 0.8 percent to 10.9 percent, while in the EMEA region it grew 2.4 percent to 13.5 percent, adding that it is the only one of the "big five" that's seen any increase at all. Obama begins the video in much the same way as Em begins his track: "May I have your attention please. Will the real Mitt Romney please stand up?"
"Y'all act like you haven't seen a Mormon before... I'm not concerned with the poor," Mitt says in spliced-together clips from various campaign speeches.
As for that catchy chorus, Romney raps, "I'm Mitt Romney and I'm the real Romney ... All the other Mitt Romneys are just masturbating." Obviously.

Just a few weeks after George Clooney got arrested during a protest in Washington D.C., Noah Wyle has gone out and done the same, as the Falling Skies star was one of many marching on Capitol Hill today, urging congress not to cut Medicaid in any way.
Wyle joined member of the group ADAPT in an attempt to tell politicians any cuts in Medicaid spending would push those with disabilities, along with the elderly, out of their houses and into nursing homes to receive the services they require.

Nokia's buried-but-beloved N900 smartphone has performed many parlor tricks in the past, but its latest role as a carbon-fiber swaddled cyborg cranium just might take the cake. Using the equally forsaken MeeGo Maemo OS, a roboticist by the name of Sascha hacked his way into the phone's three-axis controller and other components in order to bring his Bioloid creation to life. The smartphone's video streaming and remote access functions may also give this bipedal mech a leg-up on the last N900 robo we admired -- but we'll need to see some video of it all in action before we make that call. Meanwhile, let's just hope that this unholy union of rejected parts doesn't become self-aware and turn on the company that cast it away.
